The Club Team is the competitive track inside Swysh Den, built for players who have outgrown recreational league play and want tougher competition and more demanding coaching. It sits alongside our youth leagues and skills clinics rather than replacing them. Club Team athletes train on the same Dr. Dish shooting machines, dribbling stations, and courts as every other member. What changes is the level of the roster around them and the staff running practice.
Tryouts are open to players entering grades 5th through 11th, and registration is free.
The Club Team is run by William "JR" Coleman, our Head of Competitive Basketball and founder of TheAcademyPHX, under the direction of Program Director Michael "Ruff" Ruffin, a nine season NBA veteran who played for the Bulls, 76ers, Jazz, Wizards, Bucks, and Trail Blazers before moving into NBA and G League player development coaching. General Manager Brandon Smith, a former Division 1 athlete and Certified Basketball Instructor, rounds out the basketball staff.
Club Team athletes also have access to the same performance resources available across the facility: sports performance training through J Sharpe III of Stay Sharpe Performance, and mental performance support from Jordan Lewis, a Licensed Professional Counselor who is developing Swysh Den's Mental Performance Certificate Program. Competitive basketball is as much a mental game as a physical one, and that support is part of the facility, not an add on reserved for club players.
